From June 6–8, 2025, riders from across the territory will take on one of the most beloved cycling challenges in the North — the Yellowknife to Hay River Ride (YK2HR). Now in its 13th year, this 500 km ride is more than just a physical feat. It’s a celebration of community, resilience, and the breathtaking northern landscape.
Over the course of three days, cyclists will travel the open highway from Yellowknife to Hay River, supported by volunteers, shared meals, campfires, and unforgettable wildlife encounters, including some legendary bison sightings.
The event is capped at 50 riders, each taking part in a journey defined by camaraderie, laughter, and the kind of grit that only northern roads can inspire. With communal camping, home-cooked group meals, and a safety-first approach (including mandatory buffalo protocols!), this event is a true northern rite of passage.
Whether riding every kilometre or sharing duties with a support partner, YK2HR is about showing up, giving it your all, and enjoying the ride, whatever that means to you.
Registration is open until May 30. Youth under 18 ride for free.
