Grit, Gusts, and Glory – Race 2 of the Territorial Road Cycling Championships

May 17, 2025 | Highway 3 – Boundary Creek to Yellowknife

It was another thrilling day of racing in the Northwest Territories as cyclists tackled the 25km course along Highway 3, starting from Boundary Creek and heading toward Yellowknife. Riders faced gusty crosswinds but were rewarded with beautiful sunshine and warm spring temperatures, creating a race atmosphere filled with challenge, camaraderie, and Northern pride.

Despite the conditions, the energy was high and the performances outstanding. Here’s what some of today’s riders had to say:

Jacob – “It feels good so far. It was very windy out there—it was tough, I guess, but super fun. The wind gusts just hit you every now and then and kind of blow you off course. But yeah, you just get used to it.

Leah – “It was almost harder than the first race—there definitely wasn’t snow this time, but the wind gusts were throwing the bike off and it took a lot more power to go the same distance. But the sunshine was beautiful, and the warmth made it all feel worth it.”

Arlene – “This was my first race in the series—and I’ll definitely be back. It was great, even with the wind. I broke it down in my mind into 5km segments and just kept going. I was also glad we moved the start past the gravel!”
