Cycling NWT Holds First-Ever Annual General Meeting

On May 12, 2025, Cycling NWT held its first-ever Annual General Meeting, marking a major milestone for the organization and the growth of cycling in the Northwest Territories.

Held virtually, the AGM brought together members from across the Territory to reflect on a successful foundational year, elect new leadership, and set the stage for an exciting future of inclusive cycling in the North.

Board Elections

Nominations were accepted from the floor, and the following individuals were elected by acclamation for one-year terms:

  • President: Thorsten Gohl (Fort Providence)
  • Vice President: Chris Bruckner (Yellowknife)
  • Treasurer: Lisa McShane (Yellowknife)
  • Directors at Large: Korry Garvey (Yellowknife) and Ashley Coombs (Hay River)

Highlights from the Year

According to the Board Report, this past year included:

  • Official incorporation in July 2024
  • Membership in Sport North and Cycling Canada
  • A multi-community Coaching Clinic with support from the Mackenzie Recreation Association
  • Community races on Tin Can Hill, Be Active events with the NWTRPA, and expanded outreach to promote accessible cycling

Financial Summary

Cycling NWT reported revenues of $4,005.78 and expenses of $6,597.92, resulting in a modest planned deficit. Most funds were invested in coaching development and startup operations to position the organization for long-term sustainability.

Looking Ahead

Members also discussed new opportunities, such as increased recreational programming and available NWTRPA “Get Active” funding for summer cycling initiatives. While Team NT is not currently confirmed for the 2025 Canada Summer Games, athlete interest remains high, and Cycling NWT is staying engaged and hopeful.
