Cycling NWT Joins the Sport Family as a Territorial Sport Organization

Yellowknife, NWT – In an exciting development for cycling enthusiasts across the Northwest Territories, Cycling NWT has officially become a Territorial Sport Organization (TSO) and is now a proud member of Sport North. This significant milestone not only strengthens the cycling community but also opens up a wealth of opportunities for athletes, coaches, and communities throughout the region.

The integration into the Sport North family marks a new chapter for Cycling NWT, as it prepares to align with Cycling Canada and enhance its programming and outreach efforts. With this new status, Cycling NWT can now apply for vital funding through Sport North’s Sport Development initiatives, as well as collaborate with the Government of the Northwest Territories, the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), and Lotteries funding to secure base funding for its activities.

“We are thrilled to be recognized as a Territorial Sport Organization,” said Lisa McShane, Board of Director Cycling NWT. “This recognition not only validates our efforts but also empowers us to provide better resources and support for our athletes and coaches. We are committed to fostering a vibrant cycling community and creating pathways for our youth to excel.”

One of the key focuses for Cycling NWT moving forward will be the development of coaching clinics aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of coaches currently in training. Additionally, the organization plans to conduct outreach clinics in various communities, ensuring that cycling is accessible to all residents of the Northwest Territories.

Cycling NWT is also eager to collaborate with local organizations, including RCMP offices and fire departments, to host Bike Rodeos and other engaging activities that promote cycling safety and enjoyment. These initiatives aim to foster a sense of community and encourage more individuals to take up cycling as a healthy and fun activity.

Looking ahead, Cycling NWT has its sights set on the 2025 Canada Summer Games, with hopes of being included in Team NT. This opportunity would not only showcase the talent of local cyclists but also inspire the next generation of athletes to pursue their dreams in the sport.

As Cycling NWT embarks on this exciting journey, the organization is dedicated to providing opportunities and possibilities for youth to become the best versions of themselves through cycling. With the support of Sport North and the community, wonderful things are on the horizon for the cycling family in the Northwest Territories.
