Cycling NWT is excited to offer two HopOn youth cycling sessions, giving young riders an opportunity to build their skills, confidence, and enjoyment on a bike. A total of 20 spots are available for youth ages 8 to 14, with two sessions designed for different levels of riding experience.
Session – Building Confidence
1:15 PM to 2:15 PM
This session is for youth who already know how to ride a bike and have biked before, but may not ride very often. The session will focus on building confidence, developing cycling skills, and having fun on the bike.
HopOn is Cycling Canada’s youth cycling program. The Community program is designed to teach cycling skills, build confidence, and connect youth through cycling. Participants should already know how to ride a bike. HopOn uses games and activities to develop cycling skills. Depending on the riders and session, skills can include braking and descending, riding in a group, terrain management, traffic awareness, using gears, wheel lifts, and riding different features.
The sessions will also provide an opportunity for newly trained HopOn instructors to put their learning into practice and help us continue building cycling programming in the Northwest Territories. HopOn Community instructors receive NCCP training, with the program using defined instructor-to-participant ratios.
