Cycling NWT is committed to providing a safe, respectful and welcoming sport environment for every athlete, coach, official, volunteer, employee and family. Everyone has the right to participate in sport without maltreatment, harassment, abuse or discrimination. If you experience or witness inappropriate behaviour connected to sport, you can submit a confidential report through ALIAS.

Reports may be submitted anonymously. If you choose to remain anonymous, do not include information that could identify you. If someone is in immediate danger, contact emergency services.

What is ALIAS?

ALIAS is an independent third party that receives and reviews sport integrity complaints. ALIAS will assess each report and determine which organization or process has the authority to address it. Reports that fall within the Sport Integrity and Complaints Policy may be managed through ALIAS. Other concerns may be referred to the appropriate Territorial Sport Organization, local sport organization or another responsible authority.

What Can Be Reported?

You can submit a report if you believe that you have experienced or witnessed a possible violation of:

  • The Cycling Code of Conduct
  • The Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport
  • The Sport Integrity and Complaints Policy
  • Another conduct standard that applies to your sport

Reportable concerns may include:

  • Psychological maltreatment
  • Physical maltreatment
  • Neglect
  • Sexual maltreatment
  • Grooming
  • Discrimination
  • Harassment
  • Intimidation
  • Abuse of power
  • Wrongful use of a power imbalance
  • Aiding and abetting prohibited behaviour
  • Other conduct that may harm the safety or integrity of the sport environment

Even if you are not sure whether your concern falls within the process, you may still submit it. ALIAS will review the information and determine the appropriate next step.

Administrative Concers

Administrative matters should normally be directed to the local club, association or Territorial Sport Organization. These concerns may include coach assignments, athlete evaluations, team selections, schedules, registration questions and similar operational matters. If you are not sure where your concern belongs, you may contact Cycling NWT for guidance.

What Happens After a Report Is Submitted?

ALIAS will review the report and may contact the person who submitted it for more information. The first step is to determine whether ALIAS has authority under the applicable policies. ALIAS will then identify the most appropriate process for addressing the concern.

Depending on the situation, the process could include mediation, facilitation, a discipline hearing, an investigation or referral to another organization or public authority. Not every report will result in an investigation.
