Cycling NWT is excited to see that both Road Cycling and Mountain Bike have officially been included in the sport program for the 2029 Canada Summer Games, which will be held in Moncton and the Saint John Region, New Brunswick.
This announcement marks the beginning of an exciting new Canada Games cycle for Cycling NWT.
Later this year, Cycling NWT will begin assembling a team of selection coaches who will help guide the development of our Canada Games program. Throughout 2027, the focus will shift toward building a long-term athlete development plan, identifying talented young cyclists from across the Northwest Territories, and creating meaningful training and competition opportunities as we prepare for the 2029 Games.
The Canada Games provide one of the most important development opportunities for young Canadian athletes, and Cycling NWT is committed to creating a program that gives Northwest Territories riders every opportunity to succeed.
“We are excited to begin this journey,” said Thorsten Gohl, President of Cycling NWT. “The announcement of the sport program allows us to start planning for 2029. Over the coming months, we’ll begin building our coaching team and developing a pathway that helps identify, support, and prepare the next generation of cyclists from across the Northwest Territories.”
While the Games are still three years away, the work begins now. Cycling NWT looks forward to working with athletes, coaches, clubs, communities, and partners across the territory to build a strong and sustainable Canada Games program.
