As the year comes to a close, we’re taking a moment to reflect on what has truly been a remarkable first year for Cycling NWT.
From setting up the organization, to becoming a Territorial Sport Organization and an official member of Cycling Canada, this year has been filled with milestones. We hosted our first ever Territorial Championships, launched race series for both mountain biking and road racing, and built a foundation that will support cycling across the Northwest Territories for years to come.
It was a year of many firsts, and with that came excitement, learning, and growth. While we didn’t make the 2025 Canada Summer Games, we prepared for it with intention and pride. Through coach development, athlete preparation, and meaningful competition opportunities, we laid important groundwork. It may not have been our time yet, but we embraced every step of the journey and enjoyed every moment of it.
We wrapped up the year in true northern style with a fat bike race series in Yellowknife, celebrating winter riding, community, and the joy of being on two wheels, no matter the season.
We are incredibly grateful to our Board of Directors, who worked diligently behind the scenes on governance, policies, and structure, ensuring Cycling NWT is built on strong foundations. Having representation from Yellowknife, the Dehcho, and the South Slave has helped ensure that our organization truly reflects the communities we serve.
This first year has been about discovery, creativity, and a bit of innocence, trying new things, learning as we go, and having fun along the way. We couldn’t have asked for a better start.
Thank you to everyone who supported, participated, volunteered, raced, coached, and believed in what Cycling NWT could become. Happy Holidays, and we look forward to riding into the new year together.
