Looking Ahead to a Growing Year for Cycling in the Northwest Territories

As we step into a new year, Cycling NWT does so with excitement, gratitude, and a clear sense of purpose. While our first year was filled with many important firsts, 2026 represents an opportunity to build deeper roots, strengthen our systems, and expand the impact of cycling across the Northwest Territories.

This year, we will continue to focus on strengthening our governance and organizational foundations. Clear structures, thoughtful planning, and shared responsibility help ensure that Cycling NWT grows in a way that is sustainable, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of our communities. This work may happen behind the scenes, but it is essential to creating long term opportunities for athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers.

On the sport side, we are excited to continue developing pathways for cyclists of all ages and abilities. From community rides and skill development opportunities, to race series and championships, our goal is to make cycling accessible, welcoming, and meaningful across the territory. We are especially proud of the progress made in equipment access, including the growth of our bike fleet, which helps reduce barriers and allows more youth to experience the joy of cycling.

Looking ahead, we are eager to reach more communities, build local leadership, and support safe, positive cycling experiences. Whether it is on pavement, gravel, trails, or snow, cycling in the North reflects resilience, creativity, and connection to place.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey so far, board members, volunteers, community partners, families, and riders. 2026 is not about rushing ahead, it is about continuing to build something meaningful together, one ride, one event, and one connection at a time.
