What a celebration for cycling in the Northwest Territories. In 2026, the NWT has certified more HopOn instructors than any other province or territory in Canada.
This achievement reflects the commitment of the people who spent the weekend learning, riding, playing and preparing to introduce more children and youth to cycling. Every new instructor creates more opportunities for young Northerners to build skills, confidence and a lifelong love of being active on a bike.
Just a few weeks ago, nine new instructors completed their HopOn training in Yellowknife. Since then, the enthusiasm has continued to grow. The result is a strong and expanding group of certified instructors ready to bring cycling programs into communities across the territory.
HopOn is about much more than teaching someone to ride. It creates welcoming, playful spaces where young people can try, make mistakes, build confidence and discover the joy of cycling. With more trained instructors in the North than ever before, Cycling NWT is excited to see where these opportunities lead next.
Thank you to every instructor, volunteer, partner and supporter helping build cycling in the North, one ride at a time.
